Our extensive community commitment and dedication to the sporting community give us a head start in the area of sports law.
The increasing level of professionalism and governance adopted by sporting clubs and organisations at all levels has seen the area of sports law evolve greatly in recent years.
We are able to assist codes, clubs and competitors in any aspect of their involvement in a sport, including:-
- Preparation and negotiation of constitutions and contracts/agreements;
- Administration of constitution/rules;
- Judiciary/Disciplinary Tribunal hearings;
- Appeals of disciplinary hearings.
We can also assist you or your sporting club with legal advice in relation to its formation and incorporation as well as its exposure to liability.
It is important for all involved with sporting operations to understand a club or organisation’s Constitution is a binding contract with its members. This means that all members have certain rights within their club or organisation. Those administering the rules must strictly comply with the Constitution to avoid any possible breach of the rights of members.
We have appeared before and conducted Tribunals in a variety of fields and at all levels. When people have been denied their right to natural justice, we have had those rights restored by making application to the Supreme Court of Queensland.
We have particular experience in acting in appeals to the Queensland Racing Tribunal and providing advice in respect of alleged breaches of the Queensland Turf Club Rules for both jockeys and trainers.
