Rowena was admitted as a solicitor in the ACT and Qld in 2004 after completing her degree at James Cook University in Townsville and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Australian National University in Canberra.
Rowena first joined the Litigation Team at Butler McDermott in 2005 after briefly practising in Townsville. After 2 years she moved to Brisbane where she worked at Gilshenan and Luton Lawyers, Gouldson Legal and Queensland Compensation Lawyers practising mainly in all areas of personal injury and compensation litigation.
Rowena has always had a special interest in the rights of the worker and issues of safety at work and in 2009 Rowena was invited to form part of the Workers’ Compensation Stakeholders panel to discuss and make recommendations regarding possible reforms to the workers’ compensation legislation in Queensland. Again in 2012/2013 she advocated for the rights of workers with numerous submissions to the Queensland Parliamentary Inquiry into the Operation of the Queensland Workers’ Compensation Scheme.
Rowena has a keen interest in wrongful death claims and in 2010, undertook the current precedent case under the Civil Liability (Carriers Liability) Act, for the wrongful death of the surviving spouse of one of the victims of the Lockhart River disaster of 2005.
In 2012 Rowena obtained her Masters in Legal Practice from the Australian National University in Canberra.
In 2014 Rowena moved back to the Sunshine Coast and Butler McDermott and again works in the Litigation Team and maintains her interest in all areas of personal injuries and compensation litigation.
