NYC Thunderbolts

In 2016, the Melbourne Storm launched it's Storm Academy to be based on the Sunshine Coast.  The program will see the Storm's National Youth Competition (NYC) team based at the Sunshine Coast Stadium alonside the Sunshine Coast Falcons.

Butler McDermott Lawyers was proud to secure a spot as a major sponsor of the NYC Thunderbolts for 2016, with our firm ont he front of the jerseys.

This pioneering program by the Melbourne Storm will have a great impact on young and aspiring Rugby League players in the local area and promises to be a great source of business and revenue to the Sunshine Coast area as the season takes off.

Suncoast Community Legal Service

Suncoast Community Legal Service Inc. was founded in November 1984 as the Sunshine Coast Community Legal Service.  Under the guidance of a strong volunteer committee of management, the Service’s firm focus has remained the provision of advice, referral and education through its enthusiastic and sizeable group of volunteer lawyers and receptionists. Emphasis has been placed on making these services available to population centres throughout the Sunshine Coast.

There are a number of outreach services across the Sunshine Coast for the community to access a service close to them.

Butler McDermott Lawyers has a strong tradition of supporting the Suncoast Community Legal Service and its staff and Lawyers are keen and enthusiastic volunteers for the service they offer the community.


Sunshine Coast Law Association

The SCLA is an association for barristers and solicitors on the Sunshine Coast.  The objectives of the SCLA are; To promote confidence and goodwill between the community and the legal profession;  To promote confidence and goodwill between the members of the SCLA;  To promote and protect the interests of the legal profession;  To promote and protect the interests of the community in relation to the law;  To co-operate with the Queensland Law Society in all matters relating to the profession.

Butler McDermott Lawyers has a number of its lawyers volunteering their time and serving on the executive committee.


Burnside State High School

Burnside State High School is located in the western suburbs of Nambour and their students come from as far afield as Landsborough and Coolum.  They are the proud winner of numerous awards and have hosted many international educators on fact finding visits.  Their innovative structure, quality curriculum programs and emphasis on values meets the needs of a diverse range of students.

Kilcoy Race Club

Kilcoy is part of the Somerset Region and is just over an hour’s drive from Brisbane.  Kilcoy is a small farming town surrounded by rolling hills and valleys dominated by the Conondale Range.  Kilcoy and the surrounding district is home to over 3,500. It is known for its friendly, laidback lifestyle.

The Kilcoy Racecourse is kikuyu grassed and has a track circumference of 1270-metres with a very short home straight of 143 metres long suited to front runners.  The Kilcoy Race Club hosts races and events throughout the year to eager locals and visitors and plays a very important part of the local community.

Nambour State High School

Nestled in the foothills of the Sunshine Coast hinterland, Nambour State High School has a proud history of providing a modern education to all students whilst maintaining traditional values. Their past alumni have included numerous politicians including a former Prime Minister and Federal Treasurer, international musical performers, business leaders and medical professionals. They have a proud 76 year history!

In 2013 Nambour State High School became an Independent Public School and also a trial school for the Flying Start for Queensland Children project that will see Year 7 students welcomed into their school community.

The Nambour Crushers

The Nambour Rugby League club was formed in 1985 with the amalgamation of two Nambour based leagues sides, the Souths Magpies and the All Whites.  27 years later the club still fields competitive and passionate sides from the Under 7′s through to the A grade, who made the 2010 Grand Final. 

With over 250 current players the club keeps going from strength to strength with the help of our dedicated senior and junior committees and coaching staff.

Wishlist (Sunshine Coast Health Foundation)

Wishlist is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to fundraising for the needs of the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service. 

Annually they pledge over $1 million towards Medical Equipment & Support Projects, Staff Scholarships & Education Funding and Research Projects.  Wishlist commits itself to improving local public health services.

All money raised stays on the Sunshine Coast for the benefit of local families.

Wishlist provides an important and much needed service to the health services of the Sunshine Coast and Butler McDermott Lawyers is proud to be a partner in support of their mission.


Daniel Morcombe Foundation

The Daniel Morcombe Foundation (DMF) is a Not-for-Profit organisation established as a lasting legacy to Daniel and now has two main aims; to educate children on how to stay safe in a physical and online environment and to support young victims of crime.

The DMF strives to empower children with life skills to keep them safe and assists educators and parents in the education of children about their personal safety by funding the development of child safety educational resources; assisting young victims of crime through financial support, in addition to that provided by Government agencies; and empowering all Australians to make their own local communities safer places for children.

Peter Boyce is a current committee member of the DMF and Butler McDermott Lawyers is very proud to offer its support and sponsorship to DMF’s cause.


Sunshine Coast Turf Club

The Sunshine Coast Turf Club (SCTC) conducted its first race meeting on 25 July 1985.  In a short time, Corbould Park Racecourse has become one of the country's finest thoroughbred racing and training facilities in Australia.

Peter Boyce is a former Deputy Chairman of the SCTC, sitting on the Board for many years.

Sunshine Coast Falcons

Butler McDermott Lawyers is a mjor sponsor of the Sunshine Coast Falcons, who represent the Sunshine Coast in the Intrust Super Cup of the Queensland Rugby League.

Peter Boyce is a former Chairman of the organisation, sitting on the Board for 7 years, when its main brand was the Sunshine Coast Sea Eagles and is a life member of the Sunshine Coast Gympie Rugby League organistion which administers rugby league in the area.
